In view of the importance of watershed management as a platform for poverty allivation,the Govt. of Assam,as per provision in the Common Guidelines for Watershed development,Government of India,2008,has constituted"The State Level Nodal Agency,Assam" a registered Society under the agies of the Soil Conservation Department as the Nodal Department.

The SLNA is responsible for overall Planning,management and monitoring of Watershed Development Component - Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (WDC - PMKSY) (erstwhile IWMP) in the state.The agency intends to provide required focus,coordination and operational leadership in implementing the IWMP projects in the state of Assam as provisions of common guidelines for watershed development,government of india,2008 and as per specific guidelines from the Department Of Land Resources, ministry of Rural Development,Goverment of India.

The SLNA(IWMP),Assam is Governed by a Governing Council Constituted under the Chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam in the department of Soil Conservation with the Additional Secretary Soil Conservation as its Chief Executive Officer(CEO) and its Member Secretary.

Representatives from the ministry of Agriculture,ministry of Rural Development,national rainfed area authority of Goverment of India,NABARD,state line departments namely Rural Development,Agriculture,Animal Husbandary of Vetenary,fishery,forest,state Resources of the State Goverment and other representatives from Assam Agriculture University,IIT guwahati,North Eastern Space Application Centre(NESAC),guwahati university,as well as two representatives from chairman WCDC(on rotation).

The SLNA is supported byTechnical Experts and other staff from the domain of Agriculture/Watershed Management/Capacity Building/Livlihood/Finance/Administration/GIS/IT etc.
